Newport, Oregon, is a special place, with long sandy beaches, rocky coastal beauty and a community with affinity for the sea. It has been rather well photographed, especially Newport's iconic Yaquina Bay Bridge and Yaquina Head Lighthouse. While there are many photos these subjects, each photo provides a unique glimpse into the many moods and personalities of Oregon's central coast, and what each photographer sees as the magic of the moment.
I shot as monochrome images – rather than shooting color and converting the image – as a way of seeing each scene differently. Instead of responding to the color of the scene, I found myself responding more to structure and contrast. I believe there will be more black and white photography in my future.
Cobble Beach

At a place where Columbia River Basalt Group lava flowed into the sea, basalt cobbles click together with each wave and channels in the basalt shape the water as it moves.

Newport, Oregon's Yaquina Bay Bridge is one of the most photographed icons of our city. Every photo reveals a different view of our beautiful bridge.

Timeless Beauty
Safe at Home

Newport's fishing fleet is home for the holidays.

Signs that one of the locals had a nice, late afternoon, stroll.
